Its Hairspray, it?s 1962, the ?50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore?s Tracy Turnblad, is a big girl with big hair , her one passion is to dance. Now a smash hit movie, Hairspray is a global phenomenon, with productions all over the world. With 27 Major Awards including the prestigious 2008 Olivier Award for Best Musical. Hairspray is based upon the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, with a book by Mark O?Donnell and Thomas Meehan, the music is by Marc Shaiman, with lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman. The show is directed by Jack O?Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. There are 35 people in the West End cast and Michael Ball is confirmed to play Edna Turnblad until 25 July 2009 making this the longest running stage role he has ever played. Running at Shaftesbury Theatre, 210 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8DP the capacity is around 1400.
