Based on the smash hit film, Billy Elliot the Musical is set in the North East of England against the background of the historic 1984/85 miners' strike and is a truly inspirational story of one boy?s dream to realise his ambitions against all the odds. Billy?s dream is to be a dancer, so he trades his boxing gloves for ballet shoes, keeping it a secret to avoid the disapproval of his struggling family. The award-winning team behind the original film, writer Lee Hall, director Stephen Daldry and choreographer Peter Darling are joined by the exceptional Sir Elton John to create a musical that is amusing, uplifting and immensely absorbing. The musical opened in London's West End in 2005 and now in its 4th year continues to be a great success and was nominated for nine Laurence Olivier Awards, winning four including Best New Musical.
