Les Miserables

A musical composed in 1980 by the French composer Claude-Michel Sch?nberg with a libretto by Alain Boublil. Sung through, it is perhaps the most famous of all French musicals and one of the most performed musicals worldwide. On October 8, 2006, the show celebrated its 21st anniversary and became the longest-running West End musical in history the following performance, and is still going strong. Set in early 19th-century France Les Misrelabes follows the intertwining stories of a cast of characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution. The musical has won over 50 major theatre awards, a Grammy for the Broadway cast album and a Triple Platinum Disc for the London cast album which has now sold over 1,030,000 copies in the U.K. The highlights album has gone gold in the UK and Australia and the Les Mis?rables in Concert album has gone gold in the UK. Originally opening at the Barbican Theatre on 8 October 1985 the show celebrated its 21st London birthday on 8 October 2006, it became the world?s longest running musical, surpassing the record previously held by ?Cats? in the West End. The performance runs approximately 2 hours, 50 minutes which includes a 20 minute interval. Les Miserables may be inappropriate for children aged under 14.
