U2
Formed In autumn 1976 after drummer Larry Mullen put a note on the notice board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, looking for people to join a band, U2 soon developed a reputation for electrifying live shows and a dedicated fan base. The band hit the big time with the 'War' LP, released in March 1983. Boosted by the success of the 'New Year's Day' single, the record entered the UK charts at Number 1 firmly establishing the band as a mainstream act. Now one of the most popular and influential rock bands of the last 30 years In 2005 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bruce Springsteen, U2 has maintained not only its massive popularity but also its status as one of the most adventurous and groundbreaking acts in pop music.
