Green Day

Green Day has sold over 22 million records in the United States since their major label debut Dookie back in 1994. The band was credited, alongside fellow American punk bands with reviving mainstream interest in punk rock music in the States. The three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum, and gold status in that order. Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation and sold five million copies in the U.S. The bands highly anticipated eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown is due for release on May 15 of this year. The gods of punk rock have won three Grammy Awards; Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, and Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".
